In this 21st century era of 'going GREEN' many home renovators and contractors are seeking reused, re-furbished, or renewable materials to install in their homes and offices. The availability of green products increases every year, as does their demand.
Pagosa Springs business owner Stefanie Harville, proprietor of Flooring by Design, purposefully seeks out new green materials to supply her customers, both wholesale and retail. Continued...

Flooring by Design, located on Park Avenue, has doubled the size of its display room — and is constantly adding additional product lines, including materials from several manufacturers specializing in "green flooring." |
“We’ve expanded our showroom, doubled our display area, which has allowed us to increase the variety of green products we carry," Harville explains, standing in her newly expanded showroom. "From renewable cork surfaces, to bamboo and recycled carpets, glass tiles and ceramics, to reused antique oak floorboards, we continue to increase our green product lines.”
Looking over the huge variety of green floor products, the colorful grains of Eucalyptus flooring stands out with its colorful, intricate patterns. Shades of reds, browns, beiges, and creams interweave as only Mother Nature can design. Eucalyptus is a tree native to Australia, a fast grower, and therefore easily farmed and sustained without damaging any old growth forests. Another eye-catching green floor product is antique, reclaimed oak, full of character and earthiness, with a charm only older, pre-used woods can offer.
In addition to green renewable products, Flooring by Design carries materials that are 90 percent American-made. 100 percent of the carpeting choices are made in the USA, primarily in the state of Georgia. Stefanie points out a few carpet suppliers that buck this trend, creating quality nylon, wool and wool blend carpets made in CA.
“These carpet choices from a companies like ‘Fabrica’ and ‘Royalty’ have a softer, earthier, and more neutral color palette. Many buyers and homeowners from the Four Corner’s area are seeking this color range to use in their homes or offices.”
And of course, wool is a green and renewable material — just ask any sheep farmer!
In addition to carrying an increasing variety of green materials, and like quality supply businesses everywhere, Flooring by Design offers educational installation workshops to both contractors and the public. On July 26, their new showroom is offering a short course, free and open to everyone, on Laticrete Setting Materials. The two-hour seminar will run from 4:00 to 6:00pm. Continued...
